Long Term Disability - Small Groups

The Group Long Term Disability (LTD) offers a reasonable monthly salary replacement for employees who become disabled due to a prolonged illness or injury.

Why have a group disability protection?

90% of the accidents and illnesses resulting in a disability are not work related.

The Group Long Term Disability (LTD) offers a reasonable monthly salary replacement for employees who become disable from a prolonged illness or injury.

Key Benefits:

1. LTD insurance provides an income source in case of a disability and offers an opportunity for the employee to return to work on a part time or limited basis without losing benefits.

2. The income protection group insurance offers an affordable coverage. The group coverage cost is generally lower than that of a comparable individual disability policy.

3. The alternatives during a disability are complicated and more restricted. Social Security benefits are typically less than 60% of the salary amount before the disability and the application process is extremely difficult. Furthermore, approximately 85% of the initial disability Social Security claims are denied.

Rehabilitation and Return To Work Incentives

Designed to improve our group disability insurance offering, and to give you a competitive edge, our rehabilitation and return to work incentives allow you to develop a plan that suits your business needs.

Work Area Accommodations Benefit

This benefit provision allows the employer to aid the employee in returning to work. If the employee receives the LTD benefit, and the employer modifies the work area to allow the employee to return to work, the employer will be eligible to receive this benefit.

Rehabilitation Services Benefit

This benefit requires a disabled employee to use vocational rehabilitation services and incentives that we deem reasonably necessary to help the employee return to work.

Social Security Assistance Benefit

This provision explains the advice and support available to the employee to submit a claim for Social Security disability insurance (SSDI) or to appeal if an SSDI claim has been denied.

We can aid the insured in obtaining SSDI benefits:

The coverage will be terminated upon the occurrence of any of the following events:

• Aiding the insured in obtaining medical and vocational evidence.

• Finding the appropriate legal representation.

• Reimbursing the expenses of handling a preapproved case.

• Personal care assistance benefit.

It pays a monthly benefit up to a 60 month maximum after the maximum benefit period ends. The applicant must have lost the ability to perform 2 or more daily activities, become disabled or have a terminal illness that makes it impossible for him or her to work in any capacity.

Definition of disability

Our definition of disability offers access to a larger number of rehabilitation options and support services earlier in the healing process. It encourages applicants to explore options to return to work and includes the necessary language to protect the employer in case there is a reasonable work offer that the employee rejects.

Proof of Income

With limits fluctuating between 50% and 80% our proof of income provides for a more flexible plan design. Following industry standards, it also provides additional opportunities to the claim personnel so that when there is an expected labor status change, they can contact the applicants with a rehabilitation program consisting of an 80% standard during the regular work period and a 60% standard during any work period.
